Researching for Film Production

Had you ever considered researching prior to making a film? Research is a necessary and pivotal part of creating movies. Some types of films, such as documentaries or historical movies, obviously require research to feel authentic with respect to facts and time period details. All stories, regardless of historical details, require attention to the details that will build meaning and curiousity to viewers.

What kinds of aspects do YOU imagine needing to research for the film your team will create?

Some topics that will need to be researched include:

  • Character Development - archetypes, particular actors and what they are known for, fictional or historical characters, personality types, mental disorders, etc.
  • Story Elements - structure, pacing, pot building
  • Cinemagraphic Details - camera angles, lighting, acting techniques, pacing etc.
